Alternative biomass furnace wall material from biomass furnace ash CIGR Journal
Flores, Edgar Dulay.
Biomass furnace ash (BFA) generated from drying of grains in mechanical dryers were blended with cement in varying ratio of 1:4, 1:5, 1:6, 1:7 and 1:8 by volume.  Each composition was cured in an ambient condition for 7, 14 and    28 days and determined their properties such as density, porosity, compressive strength and thermal shock resistance.  Cold crushing strength increased with increasing cement content and curing time.  Likewise, density increased with increasing cement content and curing time while porosity showed the other way.  All the sample compositions exceeded 30 cycles without any crack when subjected to thermal shock resistant cycles of heating and cooling using a firing temperature of 1000oC in an electric muffle furnace.

Chire-Fajardo,Gabriela Cristina; Valdivia-Arrunategui,Rocío Alicia; Orihuela-Rivera,Carmen Adela; Ureña- Peralta,Milber Oswaldo.
Abstract: The quality of the main chocolates marketed in Peru was determined. The physical aspect: color (C *, H *, IB), hardness and particle size, as well as physicochemical: water activity (aw), moisture, fat and ash, correlating with the declaration of ingredients presented in the packaging. We evaluated 30 experimental units of chocolates (imported, domestic, dark chocolate and milk) by experimental methods, randomly acquired from different establishments. The difference between color and hardness by origin was attributed to the dairy component. Dark chocolate had lower values of color components (8.75 ± 0.94 C *, 7.60 ± 4.71 H * and 28.46 ± 0.86 IB) than milk constituents (15.04 ± 2.78 C, 34.59 ± 7.46 H * and 34.55 ± 2.87 IB) and in hardness values...

Growth of Hymenaea stigonocarpa as a function of the addition of residues in degraded soil AGRIAMBI
Mizobata,Kellian K. G. S.; Santos,Cinthia M.; Maltoni,Kátia L.; Faria,Gláucia A.; Cassiolato,Ana M. R..
ABSTRACT In areas where soil surface horizons were removed, the main edaphic problems are reduced amounts of organic matter and nutrients. Revegetation, especially with native species, has been indicated to recover these areas. Under this perspective, the present research has been developed to evaluate the contribution of organic and agro-industrial residues, as conditioners of soil fertility and their effects on initial growth of 'Jatobá-do-cerrado' seedlings. The treatments consisted of 4 agro-industrial residue doses (0, 15, 30 and 45 Mg ha-1) and 4 organic residue doses (0, 8, 16 and 32 Mg ha-1), with 16 treatments and 10 replicates. After 8 months of development, the soil was evaluated for phosphorus, organic matter, hydrogen potential, potassium,...

MANUFACTURE OF SOIL-CEMENT BRICKS WITH THE ADDITION OF SUGARCANE BAGASSE ASH REA
Jordan,Rodrigo A.; Costa,Matheus V. Da; Martins,Elton A. S.; Rosa,Maxer A.; Petrauski,Alfredo.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of sugarcane bagasse ash on the compressive strength and water absorption index of soil-cement bricks. The ash was sieved without chemical and/or physical treatment to reflect the use of this material in real manufacturing processes. The addition of natural ash decreased the quality of the bricks, reducing the compressive strength and increasing the water absorption index.

Mechanical and Structural Characteristics of Cement Mortars Blended with Locust Bean Pod Ash CIGR Journal
Akpenpuun, Timothy Denen; Akinyemi, Banjo; Olawale, Olamide; Aladegboye, Oluwasegun Joshua; Adesina, Olalere Israel.
This study looks at the effect of cement replacement with locust bean pod ash (LBPA) as a supplementary cementitious material on compressive strength of mortars. The fresh properties (workability, initial and final setting times), compressive strength at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days and microstructural analysis (SEM, EDS and XRD) were evaluated. LBPA were considered at replacement levels of 0, 10, 15, 20 and 30% of cement mass for preparation of the mortar samples. Workability of the cement mortars reduced as the content of LBPA increases while initial and final setting times increased in relation to increase in LBPA content in the matrix. An increase of about 79% in compressive strength at 7 days, 100% at 14 days, 147% at 21 days and 136% at 28 days were...

Volcanism and arthropods: a review Ecología austral
Elizalde,Luciana.
Volcanic eruptions are natural disturbances that impose multiple changes in ecosystems. Arthropods are among the most diverse organisms on the planet and play key functional roles in all ecosystems. Existing information on the effects of volcanic disturbances on arthropods is scattered. The aim of this review is to fnd generalities in the responses of arthropods from terrestrial and aquatic environments to volcanism. Mainly (1) what effects do volcanic disturbances have on arthropods?, (2) what characteristics make certain species more or less susceptible to volcanic disturbances?, and (3) how do arthropod communities reassemble after a volcanic disturbance? Terrestrial and aquatic arthropods show similar responses to volcanic disturbances. Volcanism can...
